Pele’s Molten Heart was started July 2018 and finished by January 2019. This image came from one of the most intense experiences of my life. My life had been flipped upside down earlier that year. My heart and mind were in shambles and I needed to get out of Oregon. So I made a decision to quit the job I was working and go to the Big Island of Hawaii to visit my mother to try to get a grip of my new reality. In May I booked the ticket only a week before I left. On arrival there had been earthquakes going on in the days prior but didn’t give much reason for worry until about 3 days into my 9 day trip. They went from 4.5, to 5.4, and then all the way to a grand 6.9! This earthquake not only shook the island but also caused the inner floor of Cauldera to collapse which than a day later caused the eruption of Kiluea, which in the native Hawaiian culture is the volcanic goddess of Hawaii; Pele. Feeling the earth shake me to my inner soul and than being on the island only 20 miles away from the eruption internally linked me to Pele forever. Her heart was bursting and so was mine. Her molten heart bleeding all over the native side of the island, coincidentally destroying hundreds of homes that belongs to upper class white people.
All art is printed on heavy duty card stock then packed with matboard in a plastic sleeve. Shipping is included in price.
